Cerámicas Calaf was born out of a tradition
of families of potters dating back to the beginning of twentieth century,
became a company in 1966 and is now part of one of the most important
group in Spain. It has a long history of manufacturing ceramic Products
for the building industry, and throughout this period it has constantly
reorganised and adapted its manufacturing processes to the latest
technologies. It is itself a pioneer in research and applications
from its current plant of over 20,000 square metres of new installations
and equipment.
The geographical location of CALAF, in the district of Anoia,
has very particular characteristics in that its climate is variable
and cold in winter, with frequent mists and frosts, while it is
hot and dry in summer, although the hights are very pleasant and
agreeable. Its geology is also special, the area around the plant
being rich in calcareous clay deposits of a reddish colour with
a very special plasticity, allowing CERAMICAS CALAF to specialise
in the Production of fired clay flooring with pleasant and warm
rose-coloured hues.
The entire Production of flooring is mechanically extruded and
has a rustic and traditional appearance of high quality. Our specialities
are Terracotta and Half-fired flintware, wich are the most suitable
for creating warm, welcoming and practical atmospheres. These two
specialities are embodied in two of our Product lines, the BARCELONA
SERIES (terracotta) and the MONTSERRAT
SERIES (half-fired flintware), which are manufactured with a
full range of complementary pieces. Both lines are of great interest
for floor surfaces in houses, gardens, swimming pools and pedestrianized
areas.
Faithful to tradition, and with the desire to continue eveloping
new Products, Cerámicas Calaf is pleased to present
a new line in the form of our CADI
SERIES ("hard" fired terracotta). This is a Product
with the finest decorative characteristics of fired clay, but which
has been fired to flintware, so that its stain and wear resistance
is equal to that of the best flintware.
And like these it is very easy to clean and to treat, thereby solving
the problem for those people who cannot spare the time to care for
terracotta, but who wish to keep the special qualities of materials
which are natural in composition, colour, texture and treatment,
and which keep all the warmth and tradition of classic terracotta.
Our range of Products is completed by the DECORATION
SERIES, with enamelled friezes for staircases and borders for
decorating flooring and wall facings.
The whole Product range is in line with current constructional
and ecological requirements, and exceeds the European quality standards
covered by the UNE set of standards. In the research field, we are
working towards trouble-free laying of fired clay floor tiles, attempting
to avoid the problems which occur during treatment both in and out
of doors.
The result of this research is taking shape in the TERRACOTTA
PLUS SYSTEM.
